Leon Wilkins Kirby, age 80 of Cherryville, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2022, at Cleveland Pines in Shelby. He was born January 12, 1942, in Gaston County to the late Theodore Cleveland and Cora Mae Wilson Kirby. Leon served in the National Guard and retired from Continental Tires of Charlotte after 29 years. His great pride and joy were his granddaughters and he loved spending time with his family. Sherri was a 1981 graduate of Burns High School. She was formerly employed with Reliance Electric, C.A. Short, and Carolina Care Health and Rehabilitation. She enjoyed listening to good music and watching movies.
Mark had a passion for music and was a talented fiddle player. Hubert Thompson, age 81 of Waco, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Atrium Health - Cleveland. He was born November 19, 1941 to the late James Eugene and Bonnie Edna Craig Thompson. Hubert was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was a skilled mechanic and spent many years building engines for dirt track racing at various tracks in the area. He retired as a dock worker from Carolina Freight Carriers.
